In 1995, I sat on my couch with an IBM Thinkpad 720C, Coreldraw, Microsoft Word and created Make It Work. Next, came MIW II…but before we get to that part, let me explain why I’m writing this post. We started with Citrix again, but this time, it became obvious to us that the demand was coming from the residential sector.

I don’t write about LA but I write from LA. I prefer not to do any angel investments because I focus on my VC funds but it was gratifying to write some small checks to support local teams. I’d LOVE to see it become more of a national vehicle. How do we make that happen? It’s important.

To this day I’m astounded that IBM, Google, Sun, Microsoft and others didn’t offer this service and Amazon did. They built in a feature called “auto scaling&# that monitored for traffic spikes and automatically provisioned new servers on demand and decommissioned them if your traffic surge subsided. Work it did.
