To this day I’m astounded that IBM, Google, Sun, Microsoft and others didn’t offer this service and Amazon did. At the time we viewed Amazon’s offering, EC2 as too nascent. They have built tools to store the data but also to allow 3rd-party developers to rapidly consume or even write data to their tables.
