Especially when there are things like: Amazon S3 / EC2 / AWS outage this morning. Will it survive as long as you need?

Check out the new stand-alone framework benchmarks site if you are interested in the latest and most accurate data. This is an EC2 test run on a pair of Large instances. Application performance can be directly mapped to hosting dollars, and for a start-up company in its infancy, hosting costs can be a pain point.

I believe that this is a major new area of growth & innovation for the Internet as Cloud Services start to form deeper & richer layers. You can think of even your PC as a stack in which the hardware manufacturers handled physical layers, Microsoft handled the OS layer and application companies built higher up in the stack.
