Scott Lahman is co-founder of Los Angeles-based GOGII (www.gogii.com), the developer of group text messaging application textPlus. We spoke with Scott about GOGII and textPlus, the shifting mobile market, and also what lessons he's applied to his new startup. What's the story behind GOGII?
I talked in specifics about a bunch of my investments including Factual , MongoLab , Maker Studios and Gogii (maker of TextPlus ). Well marketed. It’s a market commentary, not a company commentary. I’ve spoken positively about their design simplicity, their UX flow and their marketing prowess.
If you are talented, of course, you can get funded in any region with enough venture capital and obviously in markets outside of the Valley it is easier to get noticed and get access. Every developer, biz dev person, marketeer or sales rep on your team will be surrounded by scores of companies calling them like Sirens to switch teams.
Gogii [the original company name] was an early leader in the free text messaging space and we had tens of millions of downloads of our product. He’s with you in good times & bad. Those were the good days.
There are lots of solutions for consumers and B2C sellers, but the B2B market has largely been neglected. It's crazy--the market is twice the size of the consumer market--consumers spend around 9 trillion dollars a year in the U.S.--but He's now at Gogii, which has received investment from Kleiner.
I invested in LA-based Gogii , one of the fastest growing, most exciting mobile social networking companies you’ve never heard of and maker of a product called textPlus. But who exactly is Gogii, what is textPlus and why are they so exciting if I’ve never heard of them? My excitement really starts with the Gogii team!
In a recent interview, Goldenberg stated that the online apparel market was a “bigger than $100 billion” business and that his company and others like it were poised to “take market share from traditional retailers”. Given Goldenberg’s Internet marketing prowess, I’m sure JustFab will continue to shape online retail for years to come.
