It can be deceptively easy to set up your own, SMTP server, to send email on behalf of that app. We just launched a newsletter application built on our infrastructure, which is very inexpensive. Since we control the infrastructure, it's one fifth the cost of a MailChimp or ConstantContact for a newsletter service.
