It would not be a big stretch to image a well run service business like this making 15-25% net profit margins. Yet you can run a conference and mint money. If it’s well run, people readily pay for conferences and sponsors readily pay to become platinum, gold or silver sponsors. That is $12 million in profits over 3 years.

The net result is that often I find founders who don’t really know where they stand, what they would need to do in order to get an investment, who has to decide, what is the process to get that decision and what are the next steps in the process. It’s hard and awkward to do this because silence demands a response. I then stayed silent.

Where do the new entrants like YouTube, Pandora, iTunes, Huffington Post, Boxee, Netflix, Demand Media and other disruptive offerings fit into that equation and how is it changing?
