I helped them raise a few rounds of funding, ran their European operations. I've also worked with startups in Southern California, including TouchCommerce, and I was with them when they were on their first round of funding. That was five or six years ago, 2005 or so. I've also been involved in ValueLogic software.

There are obvious reasons the industry has had less-than-desirable returns, including: massive over-funding of the sector, huge increases in inexperienced venture capitalists that took a decade to peter out, and the massive correction in the value of the public stock markets that closed many exit opportunities for half a decade.

There is still amazing growth in that sector.
