Provide and seek coach and advocate relationships. The best coaches are people who care about you as a person, without any ulterior motives, and intend to inspire you to be the best that you can be. A good coach is not a critic. Make it a point to get to know other teams and customers.

For example, as a member of an angel investment group, I sometimes do some “due diligence” on promising startups looking for funding. Unfortunately, I often find team members who are not believers, or have a different view of the customer. Provide cross-functional mentoring and coaching. The result is no deal.
