Santa Monica-based Demand Media announced today that it has named Michael Kirby as head of its mobile efforts. Kirby has been appointed SVP & GM, Mobile, to lead the company's mobile strategy. Kirby joins Demand Media from GOGII, where he was Chief Revenue Officer.

A mobile app new project by a local, Los Angeles team has taken to Kickstarter to help fund its efforts to create an animated, interactive caveman for your iPhone and iPad. The team includes entertainment and tech vets who have worked on computer games from Activision, animation from Dreamworks and Disney, and who have worked at Yahoo!

StartEngine's founders are Howard Marks, who co-founded Activision, and investor Paul Kessler. StartEngine provides $20,000 to $100,000 in funding to promising startups, and also offers up mentoring, office space, and help in getting those startups to the next stage.

William is in San Diego, and is a longtime gaming vet, having been at Activision in the days of The Manhole and Myst. Even then, users are very demanding.

You might know Demand Media better as the people behind Cracked, DailyPuppy, and GolfLink. I hired him at Activision and he is an amazing entrepreneur.
