Facebook popularized the short-form “status update&# and this initially is called the “feed&# but over time starts to become known as the “ stream.&# Twitter then popularizes the idea of having only a stream (e.g. not all the other applications that were competing for user attention in Facebook). Just ask MySpace.

Ultimately to become defensible the client application would want to diversify its “stream&# so would start supporting Facebook, MySpace and perhaps even IM products. They have done this (they had the idea, too, so I’m not taking credit for egging them on).

The way “being loved&# manifests itself is that as a CEO you build a great team beneath you each with great ideas and big career ambitions. MySpace dithered. This pissed off application developers because it became harder to find apps. It was a shame. I really loved Yahoo! in the early days.&#.
