Peer-to-peer car sharing service Wheelz has expanded into the Los Angeles, saying that it has added four college campuses in Los Angeles to its list of local schools where it lets students share their cars with others. The firm operates facilities in Long Beach, Santa Barbara, Palo Alto, and Seattle, and says it is opening facilities in Washington, DC; Salt Lake City, Claremont, and Tempe, Arizona this year.

The funding is a requirement to get to the next step.

The universities are now more focused on the innovation economy, with schools like USC, UCLA, Caltech, the Claremont Colleges all bringing good people to LA. Those are companies like Rakuten, Softbank, Recruit, Tencent, and some larger financial services company. They are very acquisitive.
