Wednesday, September 22, 2010 -- Social Enterprise Venture Competition. Through the Social Venture Competition, 9 semi-finalist nonprofits competed in a business plan competition, presenting their plans to a panel of business and social investors who provided valuable feedback and coaching to each presenting organization.

Investors are very focused on diligence, on business models that make sense, and those companies that have a definite competitive advantage and defensibility to what they're doing. So you don't see as many people looking for funding now? Before, when things were frothy, people were not as discerning as we are now.

You can find a mentor, a coach, a project, or experience, to help you prepare for the role you are looking for. We were originally operating as a coaching company, and we built out this assessment technology for our own clients. I also find that Southern California is an amazing place for talent.

I believe that it is part of the DNA of an entrepreneur – being so competitive that you’re practically sick when you lose. They’re competitive. It is never as rewarding when you’re the coach (but coaching has many other benefits. We met everybody in the organization.
