Jon Sperry – a highly respected dialect coach who has worked with Harvey Keitel, Sofia Vergara, and Russell Crowe – taught a Stage 32 class that was attended by members from over 40 different countries. But most do it because they want to give back. There’s a community feel even to our education. Classes with a wide geographic appeal.

Tyler Crowley, of Sqweal, Launch, ThisWeekInStartups, Open Angel Forum, and Mahalo, stopped by to give a quick coaching session on pitch prep. Tyler has helped coach dozens of companies through pitching and presenting at Launch Conf and formerly TechCrunch 50. Sunday morning rolled around and it was down to crunch-time.

Surprisingly, Hollywood hasnt played a major role in the formation of new companies, which have tended to be in less glamorous though more lucrative areas like lead-generation and service (with obvious exceptions like JibJab and Hulu, a joint venture of Fox and NBC). The following week, I joined AT&T Hackathon at iO/LA in Hollywood and again pitched the idea. The following day, I again tried asking for access in order to setup everyone’s email. I pitched an idea that was voted in the top 12 but couldn’t form a complete team. Luckily, I joined another team that eventually won 1 st Place.

What I loved about the founding team from day 1 was that the founders were all people who tried to break into Hollywood and found the system closed. But even if a VC is nasty a rant email back isn’t the right way to channel your frustration. Take Maker Studios. Nothing good ever comes from that – even if you are right.
