Last week, the University of Southern California 's Viterbi School of Engineering announced that it had established a new, business plan competition, the Maseeh Entrepreneurship Prize Competition ([link] specifically aimed at students in the engineering school. The “private sale” market phenomenon was started in France by Vente-Privee (literally means “private sale”) and was replicated in Germany by BrandsforFriends. Gilt Group is currently the largest private sale web site in US. Competition: McAfee , Symantec. To be fair to Ben Horowitz – I think he thinks this as well.

VC, sales, biz dev, M&A or otherwise. Don’t over shop – If the deal you’re involved with involves raising venture capital or selling your company you naturally want some competition.
