I am taking the lead from GRP and we also invested alongside a number of friends including Dave McClure, Dave Tisch, Ben Smith (Merchant Circle), Brian Lee (ShoeDazzle, LegalZoom), Jason Calacanis, Evan Rifkin, Jennifer Lum, Jay Weintraub and a whole host of other angels. In the same year they won Business Insider’s Startup competition.

For example, Lookout is a mobile security company that was founded by three talented graduates of USC. I’m reminded of LegalZoom who was founded in LA but moved it’s headquarters to Glendale and much of its operations to Austin, Texas. No – I’m not worried about the competition.

It’s hard to get people to take a risk at a startup or for a reasonable salary with all this competition. In San Diego you have Qualcomm so an entire mobile industry has been spawned. There is Adconian, Intelligent Beauty, LegalZoom, Burstly, ShoeDazzle and so many more I can barely name them all.
