Linux (instead of UNIX), Apache (web server software), MySQL (instead of Oracle) and PHP. Of course there were variants – we preferred PostGres to MySQL and many people used other programming languages than PHP. It was driven by the introduction of open-source software, most notably what was called the LAMP stack. And maddening.

Even the most conservative companies began adopting the open-source LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) to dynamically create and maintain their websites. Pricing – Amazon’s pricing of the infrastructure that allows third parties to build their own private clouds and the old VMware/EMC/Cisco stack is cost prohibitive.

The competition was fierce and the winner was…… Airping! You get a list or map of hotels that you can filter by price and rating. Technologies used: Augmented Reaity, geolocation, open graph, php, jquery, and Native IOS. Up for grabs for first place at this hack was $10k. That is some serious cash! Is that helpful?
