By now you probably know that David Sacks , co-founder of PayPal and founder of both Geni & Yammer made some observations on Facebook that Silicon Valley “as we know it” was coming to an end. We once thought Microsoft was a monopoly on the Internet due to IE. It simply hasn’t played out in history. Laughable now.

It allows you to share private and confidential information about your company, and have a dialog with your investors, within a walled garden where you can put the documents you need for diligence. People buy companies for 3 primary reasons: 1) they want the management team / talent 2) they want the technology or 3) they want the market traction (revenue, customer base, profits, etc). We told the horror story of the company that originally owned the URL groupon.com and lost it due to not having a trademark.

If you’re Yammer , Mint or RedBeacon (all winners) you’re knighted with wonderful coverage. Use the fact that you were on an anointed list to build credibility when you eventually approach journalists (and VC’s, customers, employees). Many other great companies are not. - They see journalists as a means to and end.

What results must you have in order to raise venture capital or garner good press coverage that helps drive customer acquisition (and also more funding!)? They fund people with no customers. We need to sign up a few more customers and prove we can make money.&#. You have beautifully executed software. ON SUCCESS.
