As an advisor to entrepreneurs, I often hear the desire to run their own company, to avoid having someone else telling them how to run the business. I strongly advise you create a separate bank account and credit card for your business, even though it is all your money. You will also need a line of credit for financing.

Great question and I believe that just like finding a Technical Advisor for your startup is critical, finding a good mentor is critical.

This isn’t a story about Black Swan events. I always made them commit in an email to the day they would ship documents and then I’d hold them too it. I’d send them their email and point out the docs were late. Push hard to set up the technical reviews, the due diligence meetings, the reference calls – whatever.
