Howard is based in San Diego, and spoke to us about StockTwits. Howard Lindzon: In 2007, Fred Wilson had offered me some share in Twitter, when they were putting together their first round of venture capital investments. Through Howards investment in betaworks, he also owns early shares in Twitter. It's fun, I guess.

There’s one attribute (coming soon) that I need to have in order to write a check but I don’t believe is vital for success. Examples: There is a company called GreenLink Networks based in San Diego and Philadelphia. When I first met the team in San Diego they had only been working on their software for 5 months.

We’re a national venture capital investment firm but with our roots firmly in Los Angeles. In fact, 50% of our investments are in Southern California, from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Many tech execs (and VCs) I know have “bunker mentality.” They respond to email. I wanted to just write.

We raised a seed round of capital in 1999 and our first venture capital round was the first week of March 2000 (e.g. I stayed up late every night after a day of meetings doing email until 3am so that I didn’t feel out of touch with our product and sales pipelines. We were based in London. My family went without me.
