The focus was S3 - storage service, EC2 - their compute cloud, their queuing system, and their flexible payment system. The S3 system is not a transactional object system, it's for larger objects, larger updates. You need to push out anything truly persistent to another machine and/or storage, e.g., S3.

How does this differ from the kind of data Amazon has said it will make available through services like S3? Is this similar?

We''re not using third party services such as Amazon S3, which just adds to your cost. The only way to compete is by being innovative, and that private key encryption is one example of being innovative in this space. Number two, is our pricing. If you use a private key with Idrive Sync, no one can access that data--even us.
