The trend of funding anything from the first $25k to funding $50 million at a billion+ valuation is unlikely to last as the skills and style to be effective at all stages are diverse enough to warrant focus. I will argue that LPs who invest in VC funds will also need to adjust a bit as well. These are very different.

Inside Sony had a “booth” showing off their latest Vaio products for people to test and preview. Indiegogo, “the world’s funding platform”, was also in attendance. Verizon Wireless displayed a slew of new innovative technologies such as the VGO Robotic Telepresence. One last shout out for free tacos!

The National Science Foundation mainly funds professors to do research. Innovation in the end is about creating products, but largely the federal government doesn't make products; it buys them. In any case, right now (generally) Congress is debating funding for programs authorized in the COMPETES Act.
