I was just down at Demo Day for the USC Incubator. I just found out about a great award opportunity for people connected to USC (or who can figure out a connection in time). Presentations Silicon Beach @ USC – September 18, USC Campus USC will be hosting its 2 nd annual Silicon Beach event on September 18 on the USC campus.

What's the latest craze in startups in Southern Califonia? It looks to be startup accelerators. In just the last few weeks, at least five different incubation/acceleration efforts have booted up in the region. The group is a member of the TechStars Network, and boasts a who's who of successful local CEOs and investors.

The baseball community has really taken to it, because we''ve set it up how coaches already operate. How''d you start the company? They were very small shcools--he went to Cate, which is inland from Ventura in the Santa Barbara area, and I went to The Thacher School, and we both ended up at the University of Southern California.

The new group, The Tech CEO Network , said it is looking to help bridge between the technology present at local schools like Caltech, UCLA, USC, UC Irvine, and other universities, and actual, viable companies. Be Great Partners , a Los Angeles technology incubator, has recently released a report on the startup community in LA and the information shows a positive growth for startups here in LA. Los Angeles is 3 rd in the global startup ecosystem, behind Tel Aviv and Silicon Valley. Los Angeles has a diverse area of startups.

It's already a great technology center for lots of different areas, but when compared with Silicon Valley, the activity level needs to go way up in order for Southern California to be on par with Silicon Valley. I spent my professional career starting and running tech companies in Silicon Valley, and have been really successful at it.
