We had an interesting presentation at the LA CTO Forum by the CTO of a startup who chose Groovy / Grails as the framework for their startup. For example, you might choose Sencha if you are building apps that run natively on several platforms (e.g., desktop, mobile, browser).

Colony’s presentation is intriguing (and worth a watch if you have a few minutes) because I love to see when informed people make arguments that are different than you ordinarily hear (and different from my own views). They took over the “presentation layer” of computing. The WWW is the presentation layer.

We've instead taken those comments and turned them into scores and a rating platform. The software works on a variety of platforms, including Wordpress, Blogger, Joomla, Drupal, Tumblr, Moveable Type, and we also have a Javascript universal code option, which is raw code you can drop into any template you might be using.

First, you’ll need a platform. The disadvantage is that you can’t install a lot of additional tools that use Javascript. My first series was the slides that go into a PowerPoint presentation. I’m very particular to Disqus as my commenting platform. I put much time into it. Blogger kinda sucks IMHO.

Wordpress in particular is fairly resource heavy right out of the box so speeding up everything else is a critical piece of running a site on this platform. The problem with most of the share badges out there is that they load a Javascript file from an external source which can take several seconds on a bad day.
