Two major orange county technology advocacy and business groups, OCTANe and the Orange County Venture Group (OCVG) said today that they have merged their organizations. The two groups had already slated a combined VC in the OC and the Innovation Showcase in May.

At the same time, the need for the products and services that OCTANe provides are greater in a recessionary economy than in when the economy is booming. For OCTANe to be successful, we want to see our technology ecosystem grow. Historically, OCTANe has been loosely married to UC Irvine, where OCTANe first started five or six years ago.

Aliso Viejo-based Visionary Venture Fund , a new venture capital firm specifically focused on only investing in opthalmology companies, has closed its first round of funding for a targeted $30M venture fund, the company announced on Tuesday.
