AngelHack, the self-proclaimed leader in hackathon competitions, completed its Fall 2012 season this past weekend with contests held simultaneously in five cities: Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Toronto and Paris. In Santa Monica, Hackathon first-timers and veterans all gathered at CrossCampus to hack almost 30 products within 24 hours.

The inaugural Silicon Beach Fest in June 2012 attracted 2,000 attendees to the fest and related events. A one-day Silicon Beach Fest was held in Hollywood in November 2012. All of which are walking distance from each other. Parties are cash bar unless otherwise indicated. TechZulu Penthouse @ ROC June 19 – 21.

This past SWLA (February 24-26) was like non other and the 5th event to take place at Coloft here in Santa Monica. Those with their ideas selected were out on the prowl, looking to recruit the top designer or developer in the room. Startup Weekend LA has grown to become a very special event here in Los Angeles.

Santa-Monica based Tapiture has grown in traffic by 300%, monetized from year one and raised $2.25 million in seed funding since its founding in 2012. If Pinterest is catnip for girls, Tapiture was founded to go after the men, but quickly evolved into a more sophisticated artistic social media community. I am drawn to it.
