But in 2012 a visit to any major college in America will show you the massive increase in aspirations of our young talent to become the next Mark Zuckerberg and build a future Facebook. Just why does over-funding dampen returns?

ABC has even created an incubator-style program in which startup non-profits compete for $100,000 in seed funding. We kicked off Project Impact and 2012, and we’ve been thrilled by the response.

Throughout 2012 & 2013 we funded many companies and then pulled together a second fund. With this fund we also wanted to broaden our partnership ranks and added the talented Jamie Kantrowitz. With the success of Idealab in the 90’s every city was building out incubators. Almost none remain from that era.

Either way, the gridlock that is now the US congress will prevent any real economic responses and it seems likely that this political malaise will last beyond the 2012 election as the Republicans look to make big gains in the 2010 mid-term elections.
