Michael Jones , CEO of MySpace and former founder of Userplane, has another exit under his belt today, as AOL announced it has acquired Thing Labs , a San Francisco maker of web-based, social software. This is at least the second time Jones has benefited from an AOL acquisition; his own startup, Userplane, was acquired by AOL in 2006.

Los Angeles-based Ranker , the online service which allows anyone to list and rank things on any topic, said today that it has named Mani Dhillon as Chief Operating Officer, and tapped former MySpace CEO Michael Jones for its board. Los Angeles-based social networking site MySpace said late Wednesday that CEO Owen Van Natta is stepping down from his position, and will be replaced by co-presidents Mike Jones and Jason Hirschorn. Jones was most recently COO at MySpace, and is best known in the Los Angeles area for founding Userplane , which he sold to AOL in 2006.
