Burstly, a Santa Monica based company, provides an open and free ad management platform that helps mobile application developers better monetize their inventory. As I naturally get asked all the time why we invested in Company A or Company B, I thought I’d just put forth my thesis in writing. I like that.

But like lemmings, every company in the market rushed to proclaim they were launching WAP versions of their products. Their company, my company and countless others espoused cloud-based applications. It is expensive for software companies to build for heterogeneous environments. Enter Apple.

Forsblom is now in Los Angeles and San Diego, and reinventing himself with a mobile application company called TenFarms (www.tenfarms.com). I then went back to Europe to create a company called Fruugo, which was a big startup back in the day, in 2006 in Europe. So you're making multiple applications? What happened there?

It’s always fun debating companies with Dana because she’s always so knowledgeable on deals – particularly those in the digital media, ad-tech and eCommerce spaces. But having different funds available for different stages of one’s company is actually a really good thing. DEAL OF THE WEEK: Gilt Groupe – We both admired this company.

We seem to talk to lots of companies recently generating QR codes -- how is this different, and how do you get above that noise? Was it difficult going from print to mobile application development?
