Calabasas-based Ixia said Wednesday that it has signed a definitive agreement to buy a product line from Agilent Technologies, in a deal worth $44M in cash. Agilent's N2X Data Networks product line is used for testing and validating next generation networking equipment, including voice-over-IP, VPN, and data services.

To do that, we spoke with Vic Alston , the CEO of Calabasas-based Ixia (www.ixiacom.com), a publicly traded maker of network testing equipment and software. The other thing we see there, is we don't want to compete with our customers. It's about 500M in size today, but the key distinction is it's growing pretty fast 30-40% CAGR.
