Those are faculty members who have a commercialization idea and want help with that. There are 9 innovation nodes in the US associated with I-Corp, and one of those nodes is out of the Viterbi School of Engineering, with UCLA and Caltech partners in that. What we do, is regional customer discovery for teams, typically academic.

We think we are a company that will help ring in the 5G era, with high efficiency and high performance electronics. Our employees come from Caltech, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and we've employed people as far away as the University of Michigan. level technicians there to help. So those resources have been fantastic.

We were literally on the cusp of launching our prpoduct, and all of our work and money to date had gone into getting the innovative technology out of Caltech, exploring the marketplace, and making sure the product features matched with the demand of the market, which it clearly did. Is there a market? It's classic venture capital.

His impact has even helped a small country gain admission to the United Nations. He was a life-long entrepreneur and the first business he created out of college (actually, he founded it while he was at Caltech) was a company that manufactured high quality audio speakers. At the Twiistup panel last week, there was a debate over whether big companies could be created here, which is ridiculous--Demand Media is the latest example there, we've got Cornerstone OnDemand coming out soon, and there is no question there are market leading, large revenue companies coming out of Southern California. That's part one.

After lots of success himself, he basically says that most of the success you have in your life has to do with the people you come across in your life, who help you out. That's something I am very passionate about, supporting the So Cal ecosystem, which is why we hire heavily from USC, UCLA, Caltech, Occidental, and the other local schools.
