Entrepreneurs who have been really transformative, like Steve Jobs and Walt Disney, seemed to know how to deal with all the right elements. Find enough venturesome capital. The objective must be to get sufficient capital, with experienced and motivated counsel, to make the venture succeed. Innovate or die.

sold to Disney for $670 million and since our first investment was at < $10 million valuation we did quite well. The abundance of late-stage capital is good for us all. Given how efficient markets are when a large market like LA starts to blossom it attracts capital pretty quickly. billion in venture capital to LA’s technology startups and 2014 will shatter that figure. Both are massively funding other LA tech companies through what Fred Wilson once defined as “recycled capital.”

I make exceptions for companies with proper venture capital funds that are mostly autonomous like Comcast, Disney (Steamboat) and Intel Capital – all of which are great funds. If a company wants to invest in your company and you haven’t read that post please do.
