And I had been telling my partners for a couple of years that I thought Ethan was one of the more talented entrepreneurs I had come across in San Francisco. We generally have a policy to only fund entrepreneurs once the first version of a product has shipped or it near to shipping. We like to be able to see the concept.

I then moved to CitySearch, IAC, and then eveentually moved to The Search Agency with David Hughes. So, that's my story. That said, I'm a veteran technology guy here in SoCal. If you are an entrepreneur inside and organization, you have to understand that organization, and what makes it tick, and how it operates.

Idealab, led by Bill Gross, who founded Overture, CitySearch and MANY other business [Pasadena]. Like they truly understood entrepreneurs. Alas, I sold my company so I never became company 8 but have been a fan ever since. I thought about some Southern California angle, because this is where > 50% of my investments are.
