Don’t think about starting an incubator until you have real operating experience otherwise you don’t really have anything to offer startups. We talked about patents. Overture was sold to Yahoo!

They provide peer group organizations, usually called incubators, with free resources, practice environments, and outside mentoring that can help you learn and pivot with minimal cost. Take advantage of free startup programs and mentors. Initiate networking to find peer partners and investors.

Additionally, independent organizations, such as Pitchbook, compile annual lists of the number of VC-backed companies launched at US Universities. Are facilities available to students post-graduation to incubate their businesses? Ask: How many patents were filed by students and faculty during each of the past five years?
