Last year Forbes ranked Launchpad LA the top Southern California incubator, and Seed-DB has shown Launchpad LA companies have historically done well.

One of the big, open source successes in both Southern California and the software world was Gluecode Software , which was based in Los Angeles and acquired by IBM in 2005. Pasadena-based BigStage (www.bigstage.com) is one of those rare companies that has taken technology developed from university research, and is now bringing that technology to the commercial market. There's been an unusually complex amount of engineering, compared to a web media startup, but that's a good thing.
