Last fall, Mingly released their first product last fall to help users manage their endless webs of connections. After an initial round of seed funding of $500k led by Pasadena’s Idealab, Mingly saw great success as they built up their Gmail user base. Finally, some solid relief.

To say he has had an impact on the web would be an understatement. So he founded IdeaLab with his wife Marcia Goodstein (he talks in the video about working with a spouse and also working with siblings). IdeaLab has created 75 companies, leading to 8 IPOs, 35 or so acquisitions and more than 5 companies worth in excess of $1 billion.

and web plug-in capabilities (Yelp), Storitz definitely gave the biggest eye opener of the evening with their revelation that Storage Units is astonishingly, a $20 billion/yr industry. Their presentation ended in a quick trivia round about science, a category which (of course), the techy audience chose.

GumGum was founded in 2007 when a team of seasoned Internet entrepreneurs realized web site publishers were missing out on valuable revenue by not monetizing their image-based content. Of course, the evening wouldn’t have been complete without our fireside chat with Mike Jones , serial entrepreneur and former CEO of MySpace.

At at time where nearly all advertising was purchased on a CPM (cost per thousand) basis and not very measurable this was a huge innovation that should be credited to Bill Gross, the founder of IdeaLab. But of course Google eventually became the massive winner in this category. Early evidence is good.
