I quantified the relative priority of this responsibility as follows: Desire 12 least desirable for CTO to perform. A = Product Strategy. D = Overseeing Product/Feature Stories. C = Product Coding. I found it challenging to objectively summarize the voluminous information I had gathered. Competency.

I seem to encounter a lot of people who want to attach a CTO label to me as I'm the only programmer on the founding team of three. While I do fill that role at the moment, I'm a little hesitant to refer to myself as a CTO as we still haven't launched a product, acquired a single user, or turned or a penny in profit.

We caught on with the right product, at the right time. The Internet doesn't work right, and is broken, and without a CDN, you can't do what you need to do if you're the CTO of a large website. Instead, they outsource to an expert like Edegcast. You have to be able to be disruptive to existing products and services.

Equity-Only CTO and Equity-Only Developers - SoCal CTO , November 1, 2010 I had a recent email dialog with the founder of a company looking for a CTO for their startup. But I don’t think so. call to arms.
