Venice-based Snapchat might be the darling of the technology startup scene, but there are at least three, privately held startups--and maybe, more--in Southern California who recently passed $100M in revenues, according to a look through recent announcements. Snapchat had reportedly been on track to hit a $100M run rate--a longtime milestone--in 2015, however, has not announced yet if it hit that goal.

10 of the 44 venture-backed companies currently filed to go public are from Southern California, according to an analysis today from the Wall Street Journal. According to the report, there are 44 U.S., venture-backed companies currently filed for an IPO, with 10 from Southern California and 13 from Silicon Valley. Those firms include Boingo Wireless , Active Network , NewEgg , GameFly and Peregrine Semiconductor.

Tesla Motors Selected For Massive Battery Storage Project In SoCal

Tesla Motors has been selected to build and install massive, 80 megawatt battery storage facility in Southern California, as part of a new contract with Southern California Edison , the two announced on Thursday. The plant--to be build at SCE's Mira Loma plant--is designed to store up energy from renewables, for use during peak hours. Tesla said that the massive Tesla PowerPack install will provide enough energy to power more than 2,500 households for a day or charge 1,000 Tesla vehicles.

Southern California companies raised $739M in venture capital in Q2 of 2011, according to the latest numbers from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) based on data from Thomson Reuters. According to the MoneyTree report, released last night, Orange County led fundraising, with $319.3M raised for the quarter. Los Angeles had $222.5M in funding, and San Diego $198.18M in investments.

Search engine giant Google is making another, big investment in an energy project benefiting Southern California. The firm said this morning that it is investing $100M in a new wind farm in Oregon, which will be supplying Southern California Edison with 845MW of renewable energy. Google said the investment raises its total invested in clean energy to $350M The Shepherds Flat Wind Farm is based near Arlington, Oregon, and is specifically being constructed to supply energy to Southern California.
