San Diego-based Obalon Therapeutics , a publicly held developer of medical devices to treat obesity, has raised $10M in a private placement, the company said this week. The company said the investment came from included certain unaffiliated institutional investors, members of the company's management team and the board of directors and certain of their affiliated funds, including Domain Associates and InterWest Partners.

Santa Barbara-based Sonos --the Central Coast's newest IPO darling --said on Wednesday that it has launched a new product called Sonos Amp , and also said it plans to work closer with third parties to integrate into its technology. The new Sonos Amp is a home audio amplifier, tied into the very well connected Sonos streaming ecosystem, but which powers traditional, wired speakers.

According to the company, it has named Marc Fanelli to General Manager (GM), Forensiq and Altitude, promoted Michael Head to GM, and hired Jesper Rathje as chief financial officer (CFO). Fanelli was most recently SVP, Global Data & Analytics for Acxiom, and also served at Merkle, and will be based in New York.

San Diego-based Inseego says it has named a new head of its efforts in the UK, EMEA, and APAC. According to Inseego, which develops a range of fleet management, asset tracking, and other mobile applications, it has named Simon Rayne as Senior Vice President and Managing Director for the UK, EMEA (Europe Middle-East Africa) and APAC (Asia Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand).

Los Angeles-based Two Bit Circus , the startup blending science education and entertainment, has set a date for the opening of its first "micro-amusement park", saying that its first location--in the Los Angeles Arts District--will open on September 7th. Two bit Circus said its new location, at 634 Mateo Street, will open on September 7th in a "ribbon cutting" with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilman Jose Huizar, Bill Nye and the Planetary Society, and more.
