Cinq Music Collects $40M More

Los Angeles-based Cinq Music , a music startup which provides technology driven music distribution, record label, and rights management, has raised $40M in a Series C funding, the company said on Tuesday. The funding came from GoDigital Media Group, a media and technology investment firm focused on intellectual property rights management. According to GoDigital, the new funding will go to purchase music rights, both masters and publishing, and to further expand internationally.

GraphPad Software Buys SnapGene

San Diego-based GraphPad , which develops graphing software for scientific graphing and analysis, has acquired SnapGene , a developer of bioinformatics software, the company announced this morning. GraphPad said that it has created a new company called Insightful Science as a part of the acquisition, which will become the parent company of SnapGene, Graphpad Prism, and the Geneious DNA data analysis solutions, Geneious Prime and Geneious Biologics.

Singularity 6 Takes $16.5M In Series A

Los Angeles-based Singularity 6 , a developer of online games, has raised $16.5M in a Series A funding round, the company said this morning. The funding was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and also included seed investor LVP as well as FunPlus Ventures. Andrew Chen, a Partner at Andreessen Horowitz, will join the company's board of directors as part of the investment. According to Singularity 6, it is looking to deliver a "more meaningful" online game experience.

Report: Security Researchers Can Expose A Grindr User's Exact Location

Security researchers reported over the weekend that they are able to triangulate the exact location of users on Grindr , as well as three other mobile dating apps, all by just knowing a username. According to research posted by Pen Test Partners (PTP), it is able to spoof latitude and longitude of locations thorough the mobile apps of those phones, and calculate the exact location of a specific person using the app using triangulation.

GumGum Names New CFO, Promotes VPs

Santa Monica-based GumGum , which is developing artificial intelligence software for advertising analysis, has named a new CFO, as well as appointed a number of VPs, the company said on Monday. According to GumGum, it has named Patrick Gildea as Chief Financial Officer, Ben Plomion as its Chief Growth Officer, and also named Adam Schenkel and Travis O'Neill to the Senior Vice President roles. Gildea previously served at such companies at Joybird, Incentium, M-GO/Technicolor, and Gracenote.
