AWS updates its edge computing solutions with new hardware and Local Zones

AWS today closed out its first re:Invent keynote with a focus on edge computing. The company launched two smaller appliances for its Outpost service , which originally brought AWS as a managed service and appliance right into its customers’ existing data centers in the form of a large rack. Now, the company is launching these smaller versions so that its users can also deploy them in their stores or office locations.

Quibi Officially Shuts Down

Los Angeles-based short form, streaming video startup Quibi is officially dead , a mere month after saying it would sell off its assets. High flying Quibi--which raised more than $1.75 billion--was backed by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, but failed to gain any traction before its spectacular flameout. Quibi had been trying to start a service focused on original, short form videos on mobile platforms, with a major effort funding development of content.

San Diego-based GoSite , which operates an online platform to help small businesses bring their business online, has raised $40M in a Series B funding round, the company announced this morning. The funding was led by Left Lane Capital, and also included Longley Capital, Cove Fund, Stage 2, Ankona Capital and Serra Ventures. According to the company, its service allows small businesses to manage their website, listings, reviews, messages, booking and payments, all in one platform.

Surfline Catches $30M

Huntington beach-based SurflineWavetrak , the parent company of Surfline , the go-to site for surfing forecasts and information, has raised $30M in a funding round, the company said today. The funding came from private equity investor TCG. As part of the funding, the company said it has appointed Kyle Laughlin as CEO of the company. Current CEO Jeff Berg shifts his role to Executive Chairman.

Seismic Acquires Grapevine6

San Diego-based Seismic , which develops sales enablement and marketing software, has acquired Grapevien6 , a social and digital sales software developer. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Seismic said the buy will power a new integrated offering it is calling Seismic LiveSocial, which will use the artificial intelligence (AI) engine created by Grapveine6.
