Kudos Technologies Collects $7M

Los Angeles-based Kudos Technologies, a new startup developing "smart wallet" technology, said on Thursday that it has raised $7M in a seed funding roudn. The round was led by Patron, and also included QED Investors, SciFi VC, SV Angel, Precursor Ventures, Newtype Ventures, Chingona Ventures, plus angel investors. The company's co-founder and CEO is Tikue Anazodo.

Amgen Completes $3.7B Chemocentryx Buy

Thousand Oaks-based biotech giant Amgen said today that it has completed its $3.7 billion acquisition of ChemoCentryx, a biopharmaceuticals company which develops orally administered therapeutics to treat autoimmune diseases, inflammatory disorders and cancer. Amgen paid $52 per share in cash for Chemocentryx. Chemocentryx's lead product is TAVNEOS, an FDA-approved product which is used to treat severe active ANCA-associated vasculitis.

SpaceX Takes Starlink To Aviation Market

Hawthorne-based SpaceX is preparing to roll out its Starlink satellite Internet service to the aviation market, with a new offering, called Starlink Aviation. According to SpaceX, the new service will provide "High-speed, low-latency, in-flight internet with connectivity across the globe" and cost $12,500 to $25,000 per month, with a one-time hardware cost of $150,000. The company says it will start making deliveries in 2023.

CUJO AI Launches New Product

The company said it has launched "Explorer", an artificial intelligence-powered product aimed at network service providers. The company said the product helps identify malicious activity and helps with customer support, by identify devices that connect to a home network and provides pertinent device characteristics, such as device type, model, operating system, and capabilities.

GrubMarket Acquires LA's Rainfield Marketing Group

San Francisco-based GrubMarket, which develops food supply chain and e-commerce software, said this morning that it is acquiring Vernon-based Rainfield Marketing Group, a provider of fruits, vegetables, and Asian specialty items. Vernon is a suburb of Los Angeles. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Rainfield Marketing Group was founded in 2015, and was run by original owner Richard Choe.

Carlsbad-based satellite communications firm Viasat and fellow satellite communications company Inmarsat said this morning that they have received approval for their proposed merger from the Australian Government's Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). The companies said it already has received approvals from the UK and the US on their merger efforts, although the companies are still working through reviews. The deal is worth $7.3 billion.
