Well, aside from it showing discipline and intelligence – we always get flooded with emails when we recruit and when you have to manage volume you need to go for obvious filters. I had one of the biggest mental breakthroughs about what I want to do differently at GRP Partners in 2013. Do you find yourself too much in email mode? I regularly shut down my email so that I don’t get pop-up alerts when I’m working. I was at the Lobby Conference a few weeks ago in Mexico.

I’m very excited to be finally be able to announce that this week we’ve added Sam Rosen to our ranks at GRP Partners in the role of entrepreneurs-in-residence – EIR. He sent me a few nice emails. So what is an EIR and why Sam? I thought that was the end of it. Nice kid, but I see lots of nice kids.

He writes with a great perspective and is well worth reading. I just completed an exercise where I went out to hire a new associate for my VC firm, GRP Partners. Many MBAs took marketing courses but have never been on the front line of A/B testing, email campaigns or PR initiatives. I had to laugh a bit reading it.

My firm GRP Partners recently funded a young LA based company named Ad.Ly And if they can monetize their follower base then they have an incentive to grow their base, Tweet more, engage more and write better quality Tweets. We have spam filters for our email. Advertising has driven the majority of Internet innovation.
