Too bad, as the initial funding round has increased over 4,000 times in value, making a $250,000 investment worth more than $1,100,000,000. A VC has done their job when their funds include enough great companies to generate an industry-leading outcome. If so, not a great fit. Nope, that’s not a typo.

In a venture’s early stages, it equates to an additional dollar that must be raised in a future funding round, thereby diluting every shareholder. If there happens to be a gas station along the way where you can fill up for a reasonable price, great. Encourage your team to ask, “Is that your best price?”

This posting was inspired by an email from Rajat Suri who wrote me an email in response to Chris Dixon’s blog post (link below) from August, which recently re-ran on Business Insider and has generated much Twitter chatter. A few years ago it became fashionable for large VC’s to do seed funding. They have a large-ish fund.
