I actually just got a chance to do this in Portland, and I got to test all of the content coming in from my Portland guides on Urbandig, which I thought was very empowering. There are lots of knowledgeable people that we find to write these guides--people who grew up there, and who are experts in the area. When did you launch?

It is code word for “I’m not ready to invest for whatever reason … I need more proof.&#. They get positive product reviews on TechCrunch, GigaOm or Paidcontent.org. And I know many stories of Benchmark or similar investors writing term sheets after the first meeting. They hire key staff. They make progress.

It's the same as when I've created financial models and then have it reviewed by a hard-core CFO, sophisticated investor or similar kind of expert. And in the case of defining mobile/web/software, there is even more variability in terms of form and format. You likely are writing your first one of these. I know how it feels.

Most of the great software startups that I’ve been involved in have at least one technical co-founder (and many have more than one.) The company provides SAT, ACT, and other similar test preparation courses and related software. I had worked as a tutor for Princeton Review, and Jake for Kaplan. We thought, we could put out a better product than Kaplan or Princeton Review, which would be more compelling, and also would tie in a strong social mission.
