Most networking events tend to either focus on specific technologies (PHP,Net, C#, Microsoft, LAMP, MySQL, Open Source, Hadoop, Java, etc.) As an example, I did that as a search on SoCal Tech Central and Software Development Companies really didn't come up with much. or focused on industry or type of company.

Some other points - LAMP,Net, Java - doesn't make much difference. PIM based on Java that would be up-to-date on all your devices. Server and client in Java. Java as a platform wasn't ready to deliver on client side. Stamps.com - two back-ends - mainline service vs. marketing site. I would tend to agree. AppExchange on Salesforce.
