BYD Aims To Boost Job Opportunities In Lancaster

Electric bus maker BYD and a number of local groups, including the Jobs to Move America coalition and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers Union (SMART) Local 105, said on Monday that they have signed an agreement which will increase job opportunities for disadvantaged individuals at the company facility in Lancaster. BYD says it already employs more than 600 workers at its Coach and Bus manufacturing facility in the City of Lancaster.

The deal was worth $10M in cash, with an initial $5M payment and another $5M in earnout. DILIsym develops software for the simulation of drug-induced liver injury. Simulations Plus said DILIsym had revenues of just over $3M in 2016.

Lancaster-based Simulations Plus , which provides simulation and modeling software for the pharmaceuticals industry, said Tuesday that it has completed its acquisition of Cognigen Corporation. The deal was worth $7.0M, including $2.8M in cash and $4.2M in stock. Simulations Plus said the deal adds 30 new employees to the company, and also is expected to add approximately $5.0M in revenues in the coming fiscal year. Cognigen was based in New York. The deal had been announced on July 23rd.

Lancaster-based Simulations Plus , which develops simulation and modeling software for the pharmaceuticals industry, said late Wednesday night that it has acquired Cognigen Corporation , a provider of clinical trial data analysis software. Simulations Plus said it will pay $7M for Cognigen, split between $2.8M in cash and $4.2M in stock. Cognigen will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Simulations Plus, and continue to operate under its own name.

BYD--which has said it would be building its buses in Lancaster--has been stumbling a bit in its work with federal agencies, including running afoul of labor laws in hiring workers for its Los Angeles offices. eSolar Inks Another Solar Plant Deal

According to PG&E, it is building a 92 megawtt solar thermal plan, to be built near Lancaster, using eSolar solar thermal technology. Pasadena-based eSolar , the thermal solar technology developer backed by Idealab, has inked another solar plant deal here in California, this time with Pacific Gas and Electric. PG&E has signed an agreement with Alpine SunTower LLC, which is a subsidiary of NRG Energy Inc.
