Crilly had most recently been the CTO of RYSE UP, a startup in Los Angeles which calls itself the "American Idol for Mobile", which e co-founded with Nathan Chandra. He previously was the co-founder of NearWoo (previously known as PageWoo), a Santa Monica startup developer of mobile advertising software for local businesses.

StartEngine , the startup accelerator headed by Howard Marks, is launching its newest class of startups today in a private event in Santa Monica. The eight startups are pitching their investors to startups at CrossCampus in Santa Monica this afternoon.

There is a large menu of startup accelerators in the Los Angeles, but one of more established efforts in the area is LaunchpadLA ([link] The effort actually started as an informal mentoring program, but has grown and expanded to follow the accelerator model. Sam Teller: Launchpad is an accelerator in Santa Monica.

Although Los Angeles has become a hub for the high tech startup world, Surprisingly, one of the things which hasn't happened in the Los Angeles area is any huge, successful venture acceleration programs. Those mentors are not just Bruce and I, although we are full time on this. What is Upstart.la?

Friday evening, August 19th, rolled around and Startup Weekend LA was underway with attendees showing up at Coloft in Santa Monica around 6:00 pm and the classic Idealab keg there to quench everyone’s thirst.
