Previously we had to bring companies from all around the world to our 8 week accelerator program in Santa Monica and we were restricted by having to use local investors, trainers and mentors to keep our startups occupied. The pandemic has been a blessing for us from a process perspective. They made 45 more investments in 2020.

Those programs--epitomized by YCombinator in the Bay Area, and TechStars in Boulder, Colorado--attract newly minted entrepreneurs with a mixture of cash and mentoring, and a program which rapidly takes ideas and turns them into viable, executing businesses. Those mentors are not just Bruce and I, although we are full time on this.

Not all of these products & companies came from Silicon Valley but the overwhelming majority did. Web Services, led by Amazon’s AWS, which reduced the costs a further 90%. The “Three C’s” of the Internet … The infrastructure and web services phases of the Internet are built.

Also joining the team will be Yohei Nakajima , former academy program director at CoLoft, a popular co-working space for tech entrepreneurs in Santa Monica, California.

To that end, last week, Los Angeles-based MuckerLab (www.muckerlab.com) announced its plans--and a big lineup of local CEO mentors--to start up a new, YCombinator- and TechStars-type program in Los Angeles, headed by former Silicon Valley venture capitalist Erik Rannala , and affiliated with the TechStars Network.

This was the first in her string of web properties. Tracy is knowledgeable enough to talk tech and swap design & product stories with other founders, but she realized early that networking amongst this group and reading and writing in their journals would not bring her more customers. She focused on her customer.
