With software developed, tested and turned in, the results of UCLA Anderson School of Management’s DEV Contest were announced on Sunday afternoon to a room full of smiling faces. Everyone was talking, subjects ranged from comparisons of software to successes and failures of companies in the industry.

This Spotlight takes place Thursday, October 27, at UCLA. Mingle is a networking service that uses location to discover and create relevant connections. As a result, the team transformed the advertising industry with the creation of the first in-image ad network. 9:00 – 10:30pm – cocktail reception and networking.

So, I came back into the ecosystem, started attending the game and developer conferences, and really started asking the hard questions to executives in the industry, and figuring out where the underserved areas were in the industry. I had a programming job at UCLA at the time, working at UCLA Radiology. I was a sponge.

LA is a vibrant community with a rich network of angels that fund early stage companies, lots of VCs, easy access to big media, lots of innovation in media, mobile content, games, green, health care, and many, many others. Probably the biggest drawback of Los Angeles is the distance and traffic that makes networking more difficult.
