Steve Jillings has a long track record of running successful startups in Southern California, ranging from such companies as FrontBridge Technologies (sold to Microsoft in 2005 for over $200M) and Vantage Media (acquired in 2007). 2011 was an incredibly huge year for us, and 2012 will be the same way.

I realized that other organizations could benefit from what I’ve learned in this process. The mystartupXX accelerator is focused on providing mentorship, education, and funding to female-led technology-based startups at UC San Diego. When the mystartupXX accelerator started in 2012, we had a very small class of startups in the program.

This followed an investment late last year by Time Warner in the company in a round totaling $36 million , led by Rachel Lam , head of their investment group. Ynon & I first discussed Maker in early 2012. Our industry just took one big step towards legitimacy with the hiring of renowned media exec Ynon Kreiz to run Maker Studios.

The company recently raised $70M in funding to further expand its app and team, from such impressive investors as Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Index Ventures. That was between 2010 and 2012. So, in September of 2007, I got back into it, and we got a group of people going on a new startup, DotSpots.
